Marcus followed the manager around the coffee shop listening to his Don't do this and The customer always come first rants. He'd already heard all of this before from his father. "Ok Sir. I understand Sir." He replied time and time again to the manager. After another 20 minutes or so the manager left him to his job. There was no one in the shop so he just walked around for a bit then sat down. I wonder if he remembered to put up the "We're Open" sign. He thought to himself.

Rachel opened the door and walked in slowly and quietly, barely glancing at the man sitting nearby. She sat in a corner booth and flipped through the menu. Nothing appealed to her, so she just stared out the window. Then again, she was thirsty. Rachel glanced at the menu again. Yikes! $5 for a tall mocha? I don't think so! She set the mennu down again and sighed deeply.

Marcus jumped up when he saw the girl sitting already. Thank god the boss wasn't here. He said to himself. He walked over to the girl and apologized. "I'm sorry Miss I didn't realize you were here. Would you like anything?" He asked her feeling like an idiot and hoping she wouldn't say anything to his Boss.

Her gaze drifted over to him.
"hmmmm? Oh, uh no thanks...I guess." Sure she could use something. But since when does a poor girl pay $5 for a drink? Rachel toyed with the menu, wondering if she should get something or not.

"This place is too pricey if you ask me." He told the girl. He also though that the prices here were out rageous. "This place is for those old geezer's who hate Starbuck's and Dunkin Donuts. I think coffee is coffee y'know? Whether it's french or not it tastes the same to me." He said this because he knew that she would probably be the only person his age who'd be coming in here for the rest of the day and he didn't want her to leave so soon.

Rachel eyed him.
"Right." She ran her fingers through her hair. Someone was talking to her, someone who was probably able to afford a drink here, and someone who probably didn't even guess that her life's savings was around $5. She slumped in her seat and tried to smile.

Marcus went to the back and got her a drink which he paid for himself. He came back and gave it to her. "Here. It's on the house. I've been here since this morning and you're the first person to come in. I bet you saw me falling asleep too." He looked around and then sat in the seat in front of hers. "So do you go to highschool around here?" He asked trying to make conversation.

Rachel was supprised. She took a sip and smiled a bit more.
"I...I used to, but I haven't been able to recently." She shifted uncomfortably.
